you for your inquiry into the POSM Horse TM. The POSM Horse is an ancient and rare
animal. Members of A POSM HA (The American POSM Horse
Association) are a dedicated few individuals who seek to breed this
God gifted animal for responsible primary work: on the small family
farm/homestead or in the woods or on the road. Though we
do not all make our living from such lofty goals, we are all agreed
as to the type and purpose of the
POSM Horse TM.
Those members who own POSMs celebrate their small size; good
mind; willingness to work; gentleness with children and the elderly;
stamina; hardiness; longevity; soundness; etc.. We use the
POSM Horse Registry to perpetuate the best POSMs we can breed.
Not a status symbol, but as a tool. As strange as it may sound
in our present time of plenty and leisure, this association is about
giving something back. It is about preserving and perpetuating
a noble little horse for future generations who may need to make a
living once again from the land and locally based agriculture and
its communities. God intended for some to live this way; there
is a sense of loss and unfulfillment not to do so. It is about
wholesomeness, sanity, scale. It's about SMALL is
enough. The POSM is enough. Three POSMs teamed together;
after getting them into shape, can do the work of two one ton horses
and eat less. They are perfect for the individual or family
who wants to try to make it off the land; raising replacements,
manure as fertilizer, with cart, buggy, wagon, or saddle as
transportation. Many POSMs live into their 20 to 30+ years of
age with care.
We seek to involve children too. If
they come to know the POSMs, they will love them as we
do.
Unlike other breeds, the POSM will not be
sold by a member of A POSM HA just because a buyer
can afford one. Any buyer just wanting to ride, race, rodeo or
see how much a POSM can pull, please do not respond. We are
not about leisure, pleasure, show or sport. But, if you will
give a POSM a good home, love them, breed at least to replace 1 for
1 each POSM you own or better 2 for 1; promote, sell only to
like minded folks, you should own POSMs. A good home?
One where the POSM is loved. Loved? Where you care more
for the comfort, good health and safety of your equine friend
than you do about fun or prestige. For us, he is a legacy for
the future. Your equine partner in return gives you honest
work. It is a good experience to do something just
because it is right. These horses were cherished and beloved
when horses were a necessity for folks to survive. By
selecting the best of the past and working humanely and sanely
today, we can leave a wonderful little horse for the
future.

pay your fee of $15.00 per year either by e-mail, mail or over
the phone (Go to Membership Fee page through our Membership
Application page) and join us. As a member, you can indicate
to us how we may help you. We provide this Web Site,
Newsletter, Search Service (Depending on the depth of of the
breeding research you seek, time of analysis determines
whether a charge will be required for pedigree searches.
General or known information is available no charge to
members in good standing.), Regional Representatives of A POSM HA to
assist the local Legacy work , the POSM Horse Registry, Assistance
in Promotion of Outstanding POSMs, etc.. They are wonderful little
horses and yes they are fun, too! POSMs are not dead, just
playing opossum.
